The Abbey was one of  or possibly the most important places of pilgrimage at the time. The year prior to ‘Magna Carta’ the barons met in secret at Bury St Edmunds on account that it was the only place where they could all meet without attracting suspicion. Here they formed the initial draft.

Contains to Lucas private Chapel, however when Saxham Hall was sold to the Croft family they also took over the chapel, their memorials now dominate the Chapel.
